The District 207 Board of Education voted unanimously at its Jan. 4 meeting to join a class action lawsuit against Juul Labs, Inc.
The lawsuit is filed in the public interest. It also is filed in the best interests of the district and its students. The district is seeking damages against the company related to the many costs incurred from the use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices by students. Those costs are related to staff time, disciplinary proceedings and the purchase of vaping detectors.
It is important to note there is no cost to the district to pursue the lawsuit since any payment to the law firm representing the district would come out of any monetary settlement from the suit.
