IHSA Academic Elgibility

Scholastic Standing

Students must pass twenty-five (25) credit hours of high school work per week. At Maine Township, twenty-five (25) credit hours is the equivalent of five (5) .5 credit courses (2.5 full credits).

Students must have passed and received credit toward graduation for twenty-five (25) credit hours of high school work for the entire previous semester to be eligible at all during the ensuing semester.

All athletes must meet academic standards in order to compete for our programs. We follow the IHSA eligibility policy. Please see below for the guidelines related to student-athlete eligibility.

I.H.S.A. Eligibility Requirements

  • Eligibility is checked weekly, typically each Thursday (may be affected by holidays, vacations, etc.).
  • Ineligible athletes will be required to continue to practice and train, however they are ineligible to compete from the Monday of ineligibility through the following Sunday, earning reinstatement if/when determined eligible by the next weekly check.
  • Students with near failing or failing grades are listed by course.
  • Students passing fewer than five academic subjects (does include Health & Wellness) on a weekly basis or during the previous semester are listed as ineligible.
  • Near failing students may participate in the sport or competitive activity as long as they are passing the requisite number of courses.
