Maine West Art Students Help Bring Holiday Cheer in Rosemont

A six-foot tall nutcracker hand designed by students in local high school art programs. Art students across District 207 helped usher in the holiday spirit in Rosemont again in 2025. The Village of Rosemont’s annual display of hand-painted Nutcrackers features a variety of six feet tall nutcrackers designed and painted by several local high school art programs – including Maine West.

Each school began their decorating project in September when they received their nutcracker from the village and started brainstorming designs. The schools each had free reign to come up with design ideas that were later approved by the village. Maine West’s nutcracker was designed with “Neapolitan ice cream” as its theme.

In addition to uplifting holiday spirits, this public art project’s goal is to support the art community and the project will support Operation North Pole, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting seriously and terminally ill children and their families during the holiday season. Visitors have the opportunity to view the life-sized nutcrackers while on display at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center now through January 4.
