Goals of the Program
The English program has the following major goals: students will be able, at various levels of skill development, (1) to read with understanding and fluency, (2) to understand the expressed meaning in literature representative of various societies, eras, and ideas, (3) to write in order to communicate for a variety of purposes, (4) to listen and speak effectively in a variety of situations, (5) and to use reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to research and apply information for specific purposes. Regardless of the course selected, students will have experiences leading them to the successful accomplishment of the program’s five goals.

The Maine West English Department is excited to announce our 2013 Summer Reading Program! See the documents on the right side of this page for more information. The links will take you to the Choice Book List, as well as a presentation of all of the titles. Begin learning more about the titles so that you can come prepared to the Summer Reading Book Fair on May 23rd, 2013.
