Student & Family Services Department Vision

Our vision as professional school counselors is to empower students to achieve academic, career and personal/social growth to their fullest potential. We seek to inspire all students to follow their passion while utilizing their strengths and skills to become lifelong learners. We envision all students graduating Maine West with a post secondary plan that will guide and support them in navigating their path to become informed, inquisitive, and responsible citizens, who are happy and productive members of society.

We believe:

  • All students should have access to high standards of curriculum with high levels of support

  • All students are capable of learning

  • All students should be treated with the utmost respect

  • School Counselors serve as advocates for all students

  • School Counselors serve as liaisons between teachers, students, parents and administrators

  • School Counselors should follow and abide by ASCA’s code of ethics

  • All Students’ individual differences should be celebrated

  • All student individual differences should always be taken into account when implementing and planning guidance curriculum, especially in regards to individual post-secondary planning

  • In proactive outreach programs delivered through classroom lessons, small group counseling, and individual counseling.

  • All counselors will work in partnership with school personnel and community to meet the needs of all students

  • We believe that all services provided as part of the developmental model will be data driven in order to maintain the effectiveness of our program
